WHEREAS, Initiative 200, the Washington State Civil Rights Initiative, which prohibits public institutions from discriminating or granting preferential treatment based on race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin, was passed in 1998 with nearly 59% of the vote of the people; and
WHEREAS, Initiative 1000 repeals voter-approved I-200, legislation that pursued fair treatment and equal opportunity for every person in our diverse society; and
WHEREAS, I-1000 uses race, gender, and ethnicity to divide our society, and pits people of different races, colors, and genders against each other; and
WHEREAS, I-1000 narrowly redefines preferential treatment to allow preferential treatment; and
WHEREAS, the Washington State Legislature passed I-1000 during the final hours of the 2019 session, reversing the will of the people who had previously rejected preferential treatment based on race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin; and also denied the people a vote on the matter; and
WHEREAS, Washington Asians for Equality filed Referendum Measure 88 which will allow the people of Washington State to vote for or against I-1000 on November 5, 2019;
BE IT RESOLVED that the Washington State Republican Party (WSRP) hereby opposes Initiative 1000; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the WSRP supports Referendum Measure 88, along with Washington Asians for Equality and other communities and coalitions working to support Referendum Measure 88;
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the WSRP urges all Republicans and Republican organizations to support Referendum Measure 88 by their donations, advocacy, and signature gathering.
